The Perkins School for the Blind has received a $10 million gift from one of the owners of the Celtics.
The donation from the Grousbeck Family Foundation will help build a new facility where students can learn to use the latest technology designed to help the blind. Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck is a director of the foundation, which was established by his parents.
Grousbeck's 17-year-old son Campbell is blind and attends Perkins.
The 17,000 square foot facility is part of a $25 million campaign by the 180-year-old Watertown school -- once attended by Helen Keller -- to give students more access to technology that can improve their lives.
Students once limited to Braille typewriters and seeing eye dogs can now use the Internet, operate adapted iPods and get around with the help of special GPS devices.
