The Patriots are the focus of a spy scandal, and NFL is taking it very seriously.
The NFL's investigation is ongoing, and the league has yet to make a ruling on whether the Patriots violated league rules by videotaping the New York Jets coaching staff during Sunday's game.
There's no timetable for that decision, but it could come before the end of the week.
We know that the man at the center of the controversy is Patriots video assistant Matt Estrella. He had his camera and tape confiscated by league security officials in the second half of Sunday's game. Estrella is in his fourth season with the Pats.
Estrella shoots tape of team practices and games for the coaching staff. He was allegedly shooting tape of the signals the Jets defensive coaches were sending to their players on the field, and the NFL specifically forbids that.
Estrella was approached by three officials during the third quarter of the game, and his equipment was taken away.
Coach Bill Belichick was aware of the situation during the game.
When the commissioner does issue a ruling in this case, the Patriots can either appeal that decision or they can accept that judgment and move on.
