Report: New York Knicks' Marbury Out For Season

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The New York Knicks can't count on Stephon Marbury coming back to save their season. The point guard underwent surgery Tuesday to remove bone spurs in his ankle. A report Saturday says he'll miss the rest of the season.

The Knicks will continue to list Marbury as "out indefinitely." If he does not return, Marbury's tumultuous career with the Knicks could be over.

The Knicks never talk about missing him, although they are now 5-9 since his operation, reports the New York Times. When asked if the Knicks could use Marbury now, Thomas talked about him unenthusiastically, and in the past tense.

"He was a good basketball player," Thomas told the New York Times. "When he was out on the floor, he was a threat. When you lose a player like that, although we've been playing pretty decent basketball, every little bit helps."

The NBA's fourth-highest paid player this season, Marbury will make $20.1 million this season and $21.9 million in 2008-09. The 30-year-old Marbury averaged 13.9 points, 4.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 24 games this season.
