Transcript: Super Bowl Chat With Bob Lobel

WBZ's Bob Lobel held an online chat Wednesday from the Super Bowl in Arizona. You can read his exchanges with fans on wbztv.com. Joins Bob's next chat on Friday at 12:30 pm.

Rachel:
Bob - who seemed to enjoy Media Day the most?
Bob_Lobel: The lesser-known players. Guys like Lonie Paxton who receive less attention during the year. They are the personalities of the team that no one gets to see. They can be crazy.

sully_man: What was the deal with the lady in the wedding dress? How did she get into Media Day?
Bob_Lobel: She had a media pass from a Mexican tv station and you don't have to dress up in what your wearing to pick up your pass. You get the pass first, and then decide what you are going to wear on media day.

Chris: So I saw on TV the wedding dress lady propose to Brady... was she into all the players, or just a Brady fan?
Bob_Lobel: No. She was into herself, really. She was looking for attention and got it. It was harmless, good for her. But it was in the spirit of media day. If it were a guy in a wedding dress, it might have been a different story.

Pats_Fan23: Bob - how many Super Bowls have you coverered? What was your favorite one?
Bob_Lobel: This is my 6th. Favorite ones have always been in New Orleans. 2001 is a moment I'll never forget for the rest of my life. This year has the potential of being memorable for different reasons.

Steve: Even though you are very busy at the Super Bowl preparing for traditional type broadcasting, and you may feel the podcasts are more work, you might feel better knowing that I am enjoying them.
Bob_Lobel: If you are enjoying them, I'm enjoying them. I would just say, believe it or not, getting any kind of reaction from anything we do is like gold!

BradyLady: Bob you have the best job in the world! Tha Patriots seem to have a quiet confidence about them and the Giants are cocky. being there, do you agree?
Bob_Lobel: I can't imagine doing anything else. I don't understand how I ever got to do it. I think the Giants are like whistling past the graveyard. The more noise you make, the less chance the demons are going to show up.

Pats_Fan23: I'm with Steve - keep the podcasts coming! I love all the behind the scenes stuff

Pats_Fan23: do you guys ever sleep while you're down there? seems like you're on tv all the time.
Bob_Lobel: Some days are tougher than others. The first day we got here was a nightmare. As the week goes on, we get into a routine and it seems to be smoother.

MikeP: Bob, Assuming the Patriots win the Super Bowl where do you rank them among the NFL's greatest teams, along with the 70's Steelers, 80's 49ers, 90's Cowboys etc...?
Bob_Lobel: Personally, because of their record this year and their domination of the decade, I don't see any other franchise ever coming close to what these people have accomplished.

Sam24: Do you think Brady's telling the truth about his ankle being fine?
Bob_Lobel: I have no way of knowing. I think he'll be fine on Sunday, but that's the fan of me talking. The key is the Patriots have to keep the Giants from touching him.

StephMiller: What's your favorite part of doing the video blog?
Bob_Lobel: It's a chance to really get in touch with my inner child.

StephMiller: What was the one thing that surpirsed you the most this year versus other years?
Bob_Lobel: I have to say the emergence of Tom Brady -- super star, a-list personality off the field and actually a better QB on the field.

BradyLady: Do you have any inside stories you can share?
Bob_Lobel: I would tell you about the Super Bowl in New Orleans against the Packers when the lights went out on Bourbon Street, but I'm saving that for the book...

MikeP: What's the craziest thing you saw at media day yesterday? And at media days in the past?
Bob_Lobel: Believe it or not, the wedding dress and proposal-- as harmless as it seemed -- was right up there at the top.

joeich: Maybe the ankle injury is another Belichick ploy...
Bob_Lobel: I don't think so. I don't think the coach needs to go there. The team's too good and its just not the way we do things. But, it's kind of fun to think that it might add to his legend.

MikeP: Randy Moss will be a free agent after the super bowl. Do you think the Pats will re-sign him and for how much?
Bob_Lobel: I have no idea about the amount, but when you get all this talent together, you have to keep them together for as long as you can 'cause chances are, you may never be here again.

dmat: Hey Bob - interesting revelations from Mr. Moss, huh?
Bob_Lobel: Absolutely. Here's the thing about Moss. It's so hard to get him in front of a mic, but when he gets there, he's money.

fryarlator: hows the weather in phoenix?
Bob_Lobel: Colder than we thought, but no one here is complaining!

MikeP: Does that New Orleans' story involve you getting or handing out beads?
Bob_Lobel: Like I said, wait for the book :)

WBZ_Moderator1: The Chat is half way over, please submit your questions.

Fandome: Don't save for the book - dish! Although have to admit.. I'd probably buy that book :)
Bob_Lobel: Okay.. couple of clues... Then-Providence mayor, Buddy Cianci, Gov. of Rhode Island -- a club with candles, and a guy I convinced that I was another local broadcaster, not Bob Lobel.

ajs: Brady certainly fielded that proposal well! What charm he has!
Bob_Lobel: You know what, Yoda... he is the keeper of the force... We could all learn from him. Actually, we all want to be him... I do!

verybzman: Do you think we'll be seeing more of the Brady/Moss combo in the SuperBowl than we have recently?
Bob_Lobel: Great question... It totally depends on what the Giants defense allows. Don't ever forget the goal is to win the game. Belichick, Brady act as one and they always keep their eye on the prize.

BradyLady: Bob speaking of books, what are your thoughts on the Globe publishing a book about the Perfect Patriots?
Bob_Lobel: I feel the same way about that as I feel about talking about the parade... You know, you celebrate after the game. End of story. I'm superstitious because anything can happen on Sunday. You take nothing for granted.

fryarlator: who will have a bigger game on sunday - moss or burress?
Bob_Lobel: Burress is tough and he is a big problem for them , but he is one of the few weapons they have as opposed to Moss being one of the many weapons that the Patriots have.

Steve: I recall the San Diego Chargers were discussing a Super Bowl parade thinking they would beat the Pats last year. Boston is discussing the potential parade this year because of its conflict with Super Tuesday's election sites in and around the parade route. Is that bad omen?
Bob_Lobel: I am not happy about it. I think it's bad form. You don't talk about this stuff openly. You can plan, I understand that... But I don't hear them talking about parades in NY. But i will say one more thing.. I think Giuliani and the Giants go down in the same week.

BradyLady: How much access do you have to the team this week Bob?
Bob_Lobel: We hit 2 major league home runs this week, the Randy Moss, Tom Brady interview when the team arrived. I can't tell you how difficult that was to pull off. The other took place yesterday when we did 5 1-on-1's in the bowels of the stadium before the rest of the media met the pats.

joeich: OK seriously.. did Tom really think that he'd escape the media in Boston by going to NYC and hanging out with a supermodel? He said he was caught off guard when wearing that cast on his foot. What?
Bob_Lobel: My opinion... he made a mistake. He just didn't realize, believe it or not, the attention he would be receiving. I think he would be the first one to admit that.

rubman: What position do you think the Pats will target with their first round pick next year?
Bob_Lobel: They have a 7th in the first round from SF, and I think they'll trade it.

MikeP: Especially after this season, where do you rank the Patriots in terms of popularity with the Red Sox, the Bruins and the Celtics?
Bob_Lobel: Timing is everything. At this moment, it's all Patriots. This could be a team for the ages. When the Bruins last won the Stanley Cup, they were a team for the ages. Larry Bird and the Celtics, same thing at that time. 2004 Red Sox... you get the idea

MikeP: How about a stupid media day question for you. If you could be a tree, what kind would you be?
Bob_Lobel: A cactus... dry and long-lasting

BradyLady: Hey Mr. Boston Sports Bob Lobel,in your oppion how many Super Bowls can the Pats win?
Bob_Lobel: How many more? Let's say this year would be #4. I would say the Brady, Belichick window of opportunity may be five more years. Considering how difficult it is to actually get here, I would give them 3 more and they should have had one last year.

verybzman: What do you consider the key matchup in the game?
Bob_Lobel: The Giants pass rush vs. Brady's ability to avoid it.

BradyLady: When will your book be out?
Bob_Lobel: The demand hasn't been great, but if it's a tell-all... I'll have to go into the witness protection program, and I haven't made those arrangements yet

StephMiller: Bob, what do you think will happen this weekend? Will the Pats win by a little, lots, any guesses?
Bob_Lobel: Boring answer... I think what you've seen in the last month or so will hold form... stay close through the first half, pull away in the second half comfortably.

joeich: What about Troy Brown? Should we expect to see an appearance by him?
Bob_Lobel: We had a great interview with Troy Brown yesterday. He doesn't know if he's playing. And if he did, he wouldn't tell us. Unless someone's hurt, I would guess that Belichick will use the people he thinks will give him the best chance to win the game. This is not game for sentiment, but he understands.

MikeP: Do you think the Patriots offensive line will be able to handle the Giants pass rush? And will the Giants blitz considering their suspect secondary?
Bob_Lobel: It will be a cat and mouse game, but the Patriots have ways and weapons to deal with issues like this. Screen passes, Moroney, Welker, Watson... many ways to relieve a lot of that pressure. The key is for Brady not to get touched.

rubman: Does bringing out Gostowski for a game winner scare you? He's still an unknown quantity in my mind.
Bob_Lobel: Let's call it Adam-envy...

MikeP: Is there any way Brady isn't the MVP of the Super Bowl assuming the Pats win?
Bob_Lobel: Yeah.. Moroney could be.. Just remember, Branch was the MVP of the win over the Eagles... Welker could be. Lots of ways. Individual awards mean nothing to this team, that's why they are as great as they are.

BradyLady: Bob,do any of the Patriots have hidden talents that can be shared?
Bob_Lobel: Other than playing guitar and singing, I think the quarterback must have a few... and it's not up to me to share them

Bob_Lobel: Alright folks, this has been great, thanks! I am so flattered that you would participate. We're going to do it again of Friday at 12:30 p.m. I have to thank Lori Lennon for typing because you know what, this would have been four hours longer, if I had been at the keyboard! See you then!
