Brady Named 'Sportsman Of Year' By Sporting News

Tom Brady has been named "Sportsman of the Year" by the Sporting News Magazine.

"Here's a challenge: Imagine the NFL without Tom Brady," that's how the article naming Tom Brady "Sportsman of the Year" by the Sporting News begins.
Think about it: that's a pretty tough task.
If there was ever any athlete synonymous with one team, it's Brady and the New England Patriots.
Tom has been terrific in leading the Pats in their quest for a perfect season this year.
Through 14 games Brady has passed for 4235 yards, and a staggering 45 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. The 45 TD's are the third most ever in a season and leave him only four shy of Peyton Manning's league record of 49. For good measure his passer rating is 119.7 and he's thrown for a completion rate of 69.2.
Oh yeah, and the 14-0 Patriots still have two games to go; against the 1-13 Miami Dolphins this Sunday in Foxborough and a week from Saturday in New Jersey against the New York Giants.
So needless to say Brady's having a record setting season, in a season of records for the Patriots.
The Sporting News "Sportsman of the Year" award is likely to be the first of many for Brady. He's also considered the front runner for the N.F.L. most valuable player award.
The magazine named Brady its "Sportsman of the Year" in 2004 as well. Last year they chose San Diego Chargers Running back, LaDainian Tomlinson, who set an NFL single season record for most rushing touchdowns.
Brady was chosen by the magazine's editorial staff.
"Tom Brady has given us one of the greatest seasons in NFL history," said John Rawlings, senior vice president and editorial director of Sporting News. "You can't help but admire what he has accomplished -- even if much of the NFL world has suddenly turned anti-Patriots." Other finalists for the 2007 award included Brett Favre, who earlier this month was named Sports Illustrated's sportsman of the year; Manning; Colorado left fielder Matt Holliday; Florida forward Joakim Noah; and Arkansas running back Darren McFadden.
The December 24th edition of the magazine with Brady on the cover hits newsstands soon, just in time to pick it up for your favorite Patriots fan for Christmas.
