Former Patriots wide receiver Donte Stallworth will spend 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to a DUI manslaughter charge on Tuesday.
In addition to jail time, Stallworth, 28, will serve 10 years probation and perform 1,000 hours of community service.
On March 14, Stallworth hit and killed 59-year-old Mario Reyes on Miami's busy MacArthur Causeway. Police say Stallworth's blood--alcohol level after the crash was .12, well above Florida's legal limit of .08, according to results of a blood test.
A Miami Beach police report said that Reyes was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by Stallworth's car.
The report also quoted Stallworth as saying he flashed his lights at Reyes in an attempted warning and that Stallworth was driving about 50 mph in a 40 mph zone.
Stallworth also reached a confidential financial settlement with the Reyes' family. A person close to the negotiations told The Association Press about the agreement on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the deal.
Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Cleveland Browns before last season but was injured much of the year.
Stallworth previously played for New England in 2007 and Philadelphia and New Orleans.
