The New England Patriots have bolstered their receiving corps and special teams by selecting Brandon Tate, a wide receiver and kick returner from the University of North Carolina, in the third round of the NFL draft.
Tate, 6-feet, 210 pounds, set an NCAA record for combined kick return yardage (3,523). Tate was selected with the 83rd overall pick on Sunday with the second of three third-round picks the team started the day with.
The Patriots earlier traded the 73rd overall pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft and a seventh-round pick in thid year's draft.
