The New England Patriots have drafted outside linebacker Tyrone McKenzie from South Florida.
The Patriots chose McKenzie with their fourth pick in the third round, the 97th overall, in Sunday's NFL draft.
McKenzie, 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, played at Michigan State and Iowa before transferring to South Florida and is expected to compete for the slot vacated by Mike Vrabel, who was traded to Kansas City.
McKenzie was a consensus first team All-Big East team selection as a senior.
The pick was a compensatory draft pick and could not be traded. The Pats earlier drafted North Carolina WR Brandon Tate with a third-round pick and traded two other picks in the round.
