As Fenway Park celebrated a milestone, a dark cloud from Foxboro hovered over the Yawkey Way celebration. Some 456 consecutive sold out games breaks the record the Cleveland Indians set more than a decade ago.
But fans couldn't keep their minds off the news that their beloved Tom Brady wouldn't be the one selling out seats in Gillette Stadium this year.
"It's absolutely devastating. I think the city is in mourning," said Jim Bunker, from Lexington. "Got to believe in Matt Cassel," he added.
Another fan sported a Patriots hat. "A sad day in Patriots Nation," said Steve Walsh from Marshfield. "Tom's the leader of the team. He's going to lead from the sidelines or on the field."
At the turnstiles on Yawkey Way, Larry Lucchino and Tim Wakefield greeted fans to thank them as they came to watch the Sox go up against Tampa Bay for the number one spot in the league.
"Are they going to be able to sell out the seats in Foxboro?" WBZ asked one fan.
"I'm going to say they take a bit of a hit," he answered.
