There are plenty of new details about Tom Brady's knee surgery and the infection that followed.
The Boston Herald has information on what led to the infection - an unexpected procedure that became necessary because Brady's knee had apparently not healed enough in time for the original surgery.
"The topical infection that grew into something bigger and ultimately traveled into Brady's knee joint originated from an incision to repair his medial collateral ligament, according to a source familiar with the proceedings out on the West Coast."

The Boston Globe breaks down what's next for Brady and his rehab.
"In the best-case scenario, the infection delays his rehab and recovery for a couple of months. If critical time elapsed before the infection was discovered and the septic joint did not respond to cleanings and antibiotics, the graft used to replace the ACL could be compromised. That would mean the reconstruction would need to be revised." Read more in

One well-known doctor praised Brady's orthopedist
Neal ElAttrache and said the Pats quarterback is getting better and winning the infection battle, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"What I gather from talking to Neal today is that Tom's getting better, and what has been done is getting him well," said Dr. James Andrews, widely regarded as the country's pre-eminent sports orthopedist.
"Optimistically, once you get this under control and you can save that graft and win the infection battle -- which apparently from what I gather he is winning -- once the healing process catches back up, it really doesn't set him behind to any degree relative to the overall healing process. The main thing is to save the graft." Read more in

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels told reporters Friday he has spoken to Brady and is optimistic that he will work diligently to be back on the field in 2009.
But, McDaniels would not set a timetable for him, saying only it would happen "whenever that may be next year."
He said he wasn't aware of all the details of Brady's recovery from knee surgery.
