Kessel Has Shoulder Surgery, Out 6 Months

BOSTON (AP) ― Boston Bruins high scorer Phil Kessel has undergone surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and labrum in his left shoulder.

General manager Peter Chiarelli said the "successful" surgery was done Thursday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The 21-year-old will miss about six months.

Kessel led Boston with 36 goals last season, along with 24 assists and 60 points.

He played in the Bruins' 11 playoff games, finishing with six goals and five assists.

Boston was eliminated last week by the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games.
