Red Sox Spring Training Kicks Off Saturday
FORT MYERS, Fla. (WBZ) ―
The Boston Red Sox kick off their 16th spring training camp in Fort Myers on Saturday when 28 pitchers and five catchers will hold the team's first official work out.
All workouts from February 16-27 will take place at Boston's Minor League Complex, which is located at 4301 Edison Avenue in Fort Myers. On most days the workouts will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. Any changes to that start time will be announced.
The workouts are open to the public. There is no public parking available at the minor league complex. Free parking is available at City of Palms Park. Continuous shuttles will run between City of Palms Park and the Player Development Complex beginning at 7:00 a.m. each day until one hour after the completion of the workout. The cost of the roundtrip shuttle ticket is $2.00 per person with youngsters five and under free of charge. Shuttles will depart from the Broadway Gate.
Concessions and merchandise will be on sale during all of the workouts at the Red Sox Minor League Complex.
The team's first full workout is scheduled for Friday, February 22. The Red Sox will have 55 players in major league camp with 15 infielders and seven outfielders joining the pitchers and catchers.
The Red Sox open the spring schedule on Thursday, February 28 with a college split doubleheader at City of Palms Park. The club hosts Boston College at 1:05 p.m. and Northeastern University at 6:05 p.m. Tickets remain for both the Boston College and Northeastern games and are half price.
