Schilling Shoots Down Doctor's Yankee Story

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling shot down speculation from his doctor Tuesday that he might consider pitching for the Yankees next season - if it was an option.

Dr. Craig Morgan told ESPN Radio in Philadelphia Monday that, in his opinion, Schilling will not be back to pitch in Boston this season.

"Not only that, it's my opinion he's angry enough that it's entirely conceivable even though he's 40 years old, it's entirely conceivable that he will have the operation, rehab, and pitch for the Yankees next year," Morgan said.

Schilling told WEEI Radio in Boston Tuesday that he's sticking by his earlier pledge that he would not consider pitching for the Yankees, if they came calling.

"Me wearing pinstripes, regardless of what point of the season or my career it would have been, is not an option," he told WEEI, according to the Boston Globe.

"I'm not really sure how he (Morgan) got to some of the conclusions he got to."

There has been no comment from the Red Sox or the Yankees.

Schilling is currently on the 60-day disabled list.

The 41-year-old is rehabilitating his right shoulder and is expected to be sidelined at least until the All-Star break.

He has said he would have preferred surgery on the shoulder, as Morgan had recommended, but the team insisted that he first try rehab.

Schilling denied he was hurt when he signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Red Sox in November 2007.
