Beckett To Miss Red Sox Opener In Japan

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WBZ) ― Josh Beckett will not travel with the Red Sox for their 2008 season opener in Japan later this month, according to WBZ's Dan Roche.

Beckett has been struggling with a muscle strain in his lower back, since leaving a spring training game while warming up Saturday.

The flight to Japan from Florida is about 14 hours.

Beckett had "a good day" of treatment Tuesday.

The Red Sox hope he will be ready to go either April 1 or 2 in Oakland, or April 4-6 in Toronto.
