Beckett's Back Stiff After Workout
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) ―
Josh Beckett is feeling some stiffness in his injured back.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona says he hopes that's from the stretching and exercising Beckett did Tuesday.
Boston's ace right-hander suffered back spasms while warming up for last Saturday's game against Florida and left the mound before the game began.
Francona said Wednesday he wasn't concerned about talking about Beckett's status for the team's trip to Japan for four games -- two exhibitions and two in the regular season. It seems unlikely Beckett will make that trip.
Francona says he stressed to Beckett that there is no timetable for him to pitch, only when he's healthy.
