These days you can buy just about anything with some sort of Red Sox logo on it; so why not a car?
In yet another example of what some would say is the team's marketing genius, and others would say is their greed, the Sox are teaming up with New England Volvo dealers to release a limited edition 2008 Red Sox Volvo C30.
The two door hatchbacks are "Passion Red" a close match to the red of the Sox uniforms.
107 of the cars have been produced, one for each of the team's wins on the way to winning the World Series last year. The cars are numbered sequentially from 1 to 107, each tied to a Red Sox win.
Each has an official Major League Baseball dash plate as well as a certificate of authenticity including the date of the game and final score for the win that corresponds with the car. The certificates are personally signed by Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino as well as the CEO of Volvo Cars of North America.
As you might assume there's also a giant Red Sox logo on the rear window as well as smaller ones on the inside and outside of the car, including the floor mats.
According to the Boston Globe, the first 106 special edition Red Sox Volvos will be sold at New England Volvo dealers; while the 107th (corresponding with the Red Sox winning the World Series) will be raffled off to benefit the Red Sox Foundation.
The car retails for about $29,465 or about the same price as a regular Volvo C30.
