Bartolo Colon Signs With Red Sox

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WBZ) ― The Boston Red Sox have signed free agent righthanded pitcher Bartolo Colon to a minor league contract and invited the former A.L. Cy Young award winner to Boston's major league camp as a nonroster player.

The 34-year-old Colon had a 6-8 record with a 6.34 earned run average in 19 games the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2007.

He has been slowed by injuries, opening last year on the disabled list with a partial tear in his right rotator cuff and later going out with problems in his elbow.

He won the A.L. Cy Young in 2005.

If healthy, Colon could help shore up the Red Sox rotation, which is hurting with Curt Schilling out indefinitely.

Colon is expected to report to the Red Sox spring training camp on Tuesday.
