Bartolo Colon To Make Red Sox Debut Vs. Dodgers?

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WBZ) ―

Bartolo Colon hopes to make his first spring training appearance for the Boston Red Sox on March 9.

The Red Sox are scheduled to play the Los Angeles Dodgers then, but Colon didn't say if he would pitch against them or in a minor league game.

The former Cy Young award winner said Wednesday through a translator that he feels his conditioning is good enough now to pitch in a game. The right-hander is coming off two injury-plagued seasons.

Colon played catch with pitching coach John Farrell for the second day in a row after signing a minor league contract.

Colon reported to spring training Tuesday to work himself into shape for a possible major league job with the Red Sox.

He says other teams showed interest in him, but Boston was the only one that went after him aggressively.

The 34-year-old right-hander was slowed by elbow and shoulder injuries the past two seasons. He became a free agent after pitching last year for the Los Angeles Angels.

The 2005 Cy Young award winner last pitched on February 6 in the Caribbean World Series.
