Ortiz Says Wrist Is 'All Right'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WBZ) ― Red Sox slugger David Ortiz got an RBI single in the first inning of last night's 8-2 win over Kansas City.  He ended up 1-for-5.

Ortiz was concerned entering the game because he had said he heard a "click" in his left wrist during his final at-bat of Monday night's game.

Ortiz missed 45 games with a partial tear of the tendon sheath in the wrist before returning July 25. He entered last night's game at Kansas City hitless in his past nine at-bats and 3-for-22 with one RBI in his past six games.

Ortiz says the wrist is "all right" and will be something he has to deal with for the rest of the season. He says some days it feels O-K, and sometimes it doesn't.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Ortiz told him he did not want to take a day off.

Third baseman Mike Lowell was also in the Red Sox line-up after sitting out last night's 4-3 loss to the Royals. Lowell received a cortisone shot for a strained right hip flexor, which has been bothering him for more than a month.
