Ortiz Still Weeks Away From Return

BOSTON (AP) ― Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz says he is still weeks away from playing after taking 25 soft swings off a batting tee.

Ortiz has been on the 15-day disabled list with a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist, an injury he suffered on May 31 in Baltimore.

The Boston DH spoke to reporters Wednesday, one day after the batting tee session at Fenway Park, which he called positive and "not a setback."

Ortiz said he could not even hold a bat when he first got hurt, and is now at least able to swing slowly.

But Ortiz said he was still weeks away from taking full swings with a bat and anticipates going on a rehab stint before rejoining the Red Sox.
