Pedroia Wins Silver Slugger Award

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Dustin Pedroia has become the first Red Sox second baseman to be voted into the 2008 American League Louisville Silver Slugger Team.

The Silver Slugger Awards are presented annually to the top offensive players at each position by vote of American League mangers and coaches.

The 25-year-old Pedroia batted .326 with 17 home runs and 83 RBIs.
 
Pedroia also recently won his first Gold Glove. Other Red Sox players who have won a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger in the same season include Jason Varitek in 2005, Ellis Burks in 1990 and Dwight Events in 1981.

This year's A.L. Silver Team includes:

1B -- Justin Morneau, Minnesota (2nd Award)
2B -- Dustin Pedroia, Boston (1st Award)
3B -- Alex Rodriguez, New York (10th Award)
SS -- Derek Jeter, New York (3rd Award)
OF -- Josh Hamilton, Texas (1st Award)
OF -- Carlos Quentin, Chicago (1st Award)
OF -- Grady Sizemore, Cleveland (1st Award)
C -- Joe Mauer, Minnesota (2nd Award)
DH -- Aubrey Huff, Baltimore (1st Award)
