After being pulled from Friday night's lineup against the New York Yankees, Manny Ramirez had an MRI done on his sore right knee, WBZ's Dan Roche has learned.
The MRI results returned later Friday relatively clean, Roche said. Thus, whether Ramirez will play or not will be determined day-to-day.
The left fielder missed Wednesday night's game against the Seattle Mariners after complaining of tendonitis in his knee. But manager Terry Francona had said earlier that he hoped Ramirez would be able to return for the start of the Yankees series at Fenway Park.
Francona said it was the same knee that had been bothering him for awhile.
He was originally listed in Friday night's lineup but was pulled shortly before game time.
While waiting for the results of the MRI, the team braced for the possibility that the slugger may be put on the disabled list. But for now, it appears Ramirez may be back in the game sooner rather than later.
Kevin Youkilis batted cleanup for Boston behind the returning David Ortiz Friday night. Jacoby Ellsbury started in left field and hit leadoff and Coco Crisp will start in center field and bat ninth.
