Red Sox Get Kotsay For Prospect

BOSTON (WBZ) ― With J.D. Drew now on the disabled list, the Red Sox have made a deal with the Atlanta Braves for center fielder Mark Kotsay.

Kotsay, 32, was hitting .289 with 6 home runs and 37 RBI's for Atlanta this season.

The Red Sox will send 19-year-old outfielder Luis Sumoza to Atlanta.  Sumoza was playing for the Class A Lowell Spinners.

Kotsay was kept out of the Braves starting lineup Tuesday against Florida, because a deal with Boston was close to being finalized.  He ended up pinch-hitting and drew an intentional walk.

Kotsay will wear number 11 and is expected to join the Red Sox in New York, where they play the Yankees tonight.

He will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Sumoza, 20, was hitting .301 with 11 homers and 38 RBI in 51 games for Lowell. He was in his fifth season with the Red Sox organization after being signed as a non-drafted free agent in July 2004.
