Henry: Red Sox Not A Factor For Teixeira

Free Agent Still Talking With Angels, Orioles, Nationals

Read: Dan Roche's Red Sox Blog

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Red Sox owner John Henry said late Thursday night that while the team is impressed with free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira, a deal likely won't be made.

"NOT GOING TO BE A FACTOR"

The Red Sox met with Teixeira and his agent Scott Boras in Texas Thursday evening.

In an e-mail to WBZ's Dan Roche late Thursday night, Henry said, "We met with Mr. Teixeira and were very much impressed with him. After hearing about his other offers, however, it seems clear that we are not going to be a factor."

The Sox had hoped to lure the 28-year-old switch-hitter with an offer rumored to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-years and $180 million.

However, that deal doesn't seem to be an option.

WHO IS THE HIGHEST BIDDER?

Roche says Teixeira is still talking with the Angels, Baltimore Orioles, and the Washington Nationals.

There are also reports the New York Yankees may be involved, but general manager Brian Cashman told the New York Post they did not outbid the Red Sox.
