Red Sox Sign Rocco Baldelli

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The Red Sox have signed free agent outfielder Rocco Baldelli to a one-year deal.

The Cumberland, Rhode Island native will serve as team's fourth outfielder replacing Coco Crisp, who was dealt to Kansas City earlier in the off-season.

Baldelli was limited last season by a disease known as "channelopathy" which causes severe fatigue. However, it appears Baldelli will be able to control it.

Baldelli has a career batting average of .281 with 52 home runs and 234 RBI, all with the Tampa Rays, who beat the Sox in seven games in the 2008 ALCS.

To make room for Baldelli on the 40-man roster, pitcher Charlie Zink was designated for assignment.
