Red Sox World Series Ring Dripping In Bling

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The 2008 season started off with a bang during Tuesday's Red Sox Home Opener. One of the most rewarding moments was seeing the 2007 Red Sox finally collect their World Series rings.

Boston Mayor Tom Menino and members of the media were some of the few people to see the ring before today's game. And just like the 2004 ring, it was covered in diamonds, white gold and precious stones. As owner John Henry put it, the rings are large and have plenty of bling, because that's how the players like them.

According to the Boston Red Sox, the 2007 World Series ring is cast in white gold. On top of the ring, there are 28 round cut diamonds with the words "World Champions" on top. According to one local jeweler, the rings are heavier than a typical man's watch.

On the top of the ring, there is a pair of red socks made of four custom-fitted natural rubies mounted on a 14-diamond base crest depicting a baseball diamond. The diamonds are set on a field of four custom faceted synthetic blue sapphires.

The left hand side of the ring reads "7th World Series Champions" with a depiction of Fenway Park and the words "4-0 Sweep" underneath.

For those who played on the 2004 and 2007 teams, their rings have the player's name in a raised relief above a maroon-enameled "B" between two World Series trophies.

For those who only played on the 2007 team, their rings have one trophy on the right side of the ring and a maroon enameled "B" on the left.

The bottom of all the rings has the player's number and the year "2007".

The inside of the ring is engraved with "Boston Red Sox" and "10-38-07".

In total, the ring has 42 diamonds with a total weight of 2.33 carats. The total weight of the ring is 50 dwt.

WBZ spoke to one Boston jewelry store owner who has not seen the ring in person, but based on the carat weight and the weight of the gold, he estimated each ring is worth around $10,000 retail.
