TPC Boston Hit With Discrimination Complaint

NORTON (AP) ― Eight retirees have filed discrimination complaints against the Tournament Players Club golf course in Norton, claiming they were fired because of their age.

Michael Duggan, a lawyer for the men between the ages of 66 and 76, said they had worked at the club for five years before they were fired this spring and replaced with college-age workers.

One of the men fired, 71-year-old James Goonan, says he felt "hurt" and "slighted."

The complaints filed with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination on Monday ask for unspecified damages.

Brad Williams, general manager of the course, scheduled to hold the Deutsche Bank Championship this weekend, refused comment.

Neera Mahajan Shetty, assistant general counsel for the PGA Tour, which owns the course, says the PGA will "vigorously" defend itself.
