Power

Power can be stored, taken or built.

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Today we are going to talk about power.

Marjorie Claprood

M good friend Marjorie Clapprood works out four times a week.  Marjorie, as you know is leukemia survivor, and underwent a successful bone marrow transplant last year.  This was a challenging experience, but Marjorie is a strong woman and she's back.

Help from the Harbor
The beauty, history and diversity of Boston harbor are legendary.  It is a place where thousands of boats come and go each year and it runs along six of Boston's neighborhoods. The harbor is also home to another community, one that is actually on the water.   As Sunday discovered, this is a community that comes together in powerful ways to support people who need help.

Pilates

Good exercise is essential to a good quality of life.  An exercise regimen can build body strength, balance and endurance.  Pilates offers something more because it focuses on your core.  My favorite place for Pilates is Studio Elle in Brookline.

Don't Sweat It!

If you are anywhere near the age of menopause, you already know how rough this time of life it can be with its hot flashes, night sweats and emotional upheaval.   To make matters worse, there is a lot of confusing information about menopause out there.

You don't have to be powerless going into this stage of your life. There is the possibility of gaining strength.   Medical Doctor Phuli Cohen has some advice worth repeating.

Just Thinking

We usually think of power in terms of politics or business, as something that is coveted, taken and rarely shared.  There is hope if not an inherent expectation that most power will be used for good, despite the many times it ends up corrupted.  Applied wisely, power is creative. Mishandled, it can destroy.  There are those who define it as wisdom, while others insist it can be bought and sold.   In a gym, it is a physical rush, and in a cancer clinic it can be depleted in the battle for life.  The more closely I observe the world, the more I long for power of a deeper capacity in a quieter form,  like a seed planted in the ground that takes root and pushes it ways towards the surface.  It is a force that emanates from an unfathomable place that I barely understand and fuels both hope and faith. It is the whispered promise of the universe that the most desperate situation can improve, the most desolate circumstances can be overcome and any night's tears can be turned into morning's joy.

Sunday is proud to present Wanda Perry Josephs.
