Rhythm

An essential element of life and music.

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Chita
The hip swaying, foot stomping rhythm of Broadway star Chita Rivera is legendary. Chita was in Boston not too long ago to receive a lifetime achievement award from Boston Youth Moves. Chita Rivera is well into her 70's. She says her great shape is due to her insistence on keeping the rhythm going.

Bebe Neuwirth
Rhythm is not just what dancers keep on stage. Actress Bebe Neuwirth says it's a way to approach the highs and lows of life. Bebe was one of those who honored Chita Rivera at the Boston Youth Moves Gala. She talked with us about her love of dance, her personal struggles and her inspiration.

Boston Youth Moves

They are members of Boston Youth Moves,a pre-professional dance training program for teens. Jeannette Neill who is the co-founder and director of Boston Youth Moves, joins us.

Just Thinking
With so much August rain concealing the sun it looks as though summer will end before it really started. The so-called lazy days will be soon be gone. Beaches will empty. Narrow streets will fill with u-hauls and school buses. the pace will quicken, the rhythm picks up. Whether we're ready or not the busy season will start up again, crowded with traffic jams overbooked schedules, and packed routines. My, how time flies!
But before you mourn another lost season, remember summer's end can still hold treasures that those who seek will find. There is still enough space between cloud bursts for a shimmer or two of sunlight, plenty of sandy paths to walk for calm and focus, There are still sweet blueberries to savor and sunflowers so alive they sing!  Nature offers much to explore this time of year. Who knows, you might even discover a blessing in the storms.  The waning days of summer make it important to be alert. Glimpses of grace abound. Ancient wisdom calls its staying awake to the wonder that happens all around. Paying attention does not restore lost time. It creates new moments.
