Sunday Honors Special Sunday Honors to Big Brother Frantz Prenelus, who volunteered for the Big brother Big Sister Program ten years ago. His brother Jude wrote in and told us about him. Jude and Frantz Prenelus talk about these very special bonds.
Just Thinking I only have a few cherished memories of my father. My brother and I were very young when he died. But I do remember all the people who stood in the gap of his absence, church members, good friends, relatives who offered their attention and energy to a couple of confused and scared little kids. The folks who took us for ice cream, sporting events or just a little hanging out time that softened the edges of loneliness and pain. There are so many kids today who for a myriad of reasons are left without biological dads, but are blessed with those generous spirits who share their own time and energy. That's grace. So here's to all the stand-in dads; the uncle bobs, grandpas, big brothers, and friends, the teachers, coaches, cops and all the rest of you who live your own busy lives and still find the time to throw a few hoops, or catch a movie, or just chat with one who might not be your own-- but you have claimed because he needs it. Even when you're overworked and tired and don't think you can find one more minute to give. But you do. And it makes a big a difference. No matter how small the effort, it is important. And so are you. Happy Fathers Day!
