MOMS
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
On this special day, we celebrate
MOMS. We'll show you how a couple of Boston's hottest restaurant owners honor their mom. We have some great ideas on how moms can best take care of ourselves.
VIOLENCE AND KIDS As parents, how can we best protect our children from increasingly violent media exhibited on the internet, television and movies. Is that rating enough? Our guest, Nancy Carlsson- Paige, Ed. D, has some thoughts on that subject. She is the author of "Taking Back Childhood: Helping Your Kids Thrive in a Fast-Paced, Media-Saturated, Violence- Filled World." She is also Matt Damon's mom.
NEBO RESTAURANT Carla and Christine Palotta love their mom's Italian cooking so much, they recorded all her favorite recipes, down to the tiniest pinch. How great is that? You can find out for yourself when you visit Nebo's restaurant in Boston's North End.
DESTRESSING MOM at THE SPA If you're still thinking about something really special to give your mother or if you are a mom and you want to treat yourself to something special, we recommend you spend some time at the Melt salon on Newbury Street. Here's why it's one of our favorites.
SUNDAY HONORS A Special Sunday Honors for the mothers of children in military, particularly those fighting in Iraq. Tina Veves is a member of a group called Blue Star Mothers of Massachusetts, a non profit organization supporting families of soldiers. Sharon Bouchard is the president of the Massachusetts group
JUST THINKING Her favorite retorts "There's only one woman in this house!" And "Because I said so!" Of course, she had her sweet side, but my mom was at her best when she drew her lines in the sand. That is how she comes back to me, a tiny ball of prayer and power with well worn phrases ready at a moment's notice to take on any challenge from an overbearing life or child. Words I swore I'd never use because of course I'd never be like her. Too bossy! Who did she think she was? And then somewhere in the blur of time, I find myself facing that child of mine, pulling on my last nerve. Out they come charging into the moment to help me regain an inch of control. Don't make me come up there! Their power and force catch me off guard, I spin around expecting to see her standing there. Oh my! When did I become my mother? Just in time.
SUNDAY IS PROUD TO PRESENT THE THREE GRACES.
