NUMBERS
(WBZ)
Today on Sunday, a look at 'Numbers'.
Gloria Steinhem (73) At 73, feminist icon Gloria Steinhem is still traveling around the world as an organizer, lecturer and a writer. And she looks great. What's on her mind? We find out in a very special Sunday conversation.
Furniture Bank According to some state statistics, there are 43 thousand school children in the Massachusetts who are homeless on a daily basis. The Mass Coalition for the Homelessness is one of the most effective organizations in dealing with this pervasive problem. We talked to the executive director of the Coalition Robyn Frost
who deals with the people behind the numbers.
This will mark the fifth year that our good friends at Home Goods have been supporting the Mass Coalition for Homelessness with its annual blanket drive that helps keep families warm.
FIFTEEN (15) 15 is a very significant birthday for many girls in the (Spanish Latina)a tradition community. It is the year they celebrate Quinceanera, a tradition that blends culture and religion into one wonderful party.
TOWN DINER (60) The Deluxe Town Diner in Watertown is 60 years old. It is one of the most popular eating places in that community. On any given day, people are lining up. Why? We sent our Sunday camera to find out.
JUST THINKING It's hard to believe that Gloria Steinem is 73 years old. It's encouraging to see how good she looks,
70 is the new 50
its even more heartening to realize that she is still traveling the world organizing and speaking out
doing what she loves to do. Perhaps growing old gracefully is less about looks and more about holding onto passions and purpose.
For me, the best thing about growing older is priorities have shifted even more than body parts. There's a new confidence, a clarity on issues, what will and will not be tolerated. Authenticity counts. Don't get me wrong. Style still matters, but not nearly as much as substance. When you think about it, that's not a matter of growing old. It's about continuing to grow. It is the learned art of standing with your mind open your heart at peace in comfortable shoes.
