Fran's Paper Bag Apple Pie
Nothing completes a Thanksgiving meal like an apple pie.
INGREDIENTS:
1 unbaked pie crust, 9?
3-4 lg. pie apples, approx. 2.5 lb.)
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tbs. flour
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
3 Tbs. lemon juice
Topping:
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
DIRECTIONS:
Pare, core and quarter apples, then half each quarter crosswise to make
chunks (about 7 cups). Place in a lg. bowl.
Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 2 Tbs. flour and nutmeg in cup. Sprinkle over
apples, toss to coat well. Spoon into pie shell. Drizzle lemon juice
over apples.
Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup flour for topping in sm. bowl. Cut
butter and sprinkle over top. Slide pie into heavy brown paper bag lg.
enough to cover loosely; fold end over twice and fasten with paper
clips. Place on cookie sheet for easy handling/
Bake in hot over at 425ยบ for 1 hour (apples will be tender and top will
be bubbly and golden). Split bag open and remove pie. Cool on wire rack.
