Dallas Cat Survives 900-Mile Trip In A Box

DALLAS (CBS) ― A cat from Dallas is accidentally shipped more than 900 miles, surviving two days without food or water, inside a box. Yet a situation that could've ended in a catastrophe instead has a happy ending.

Back at home and back in the arms of his owner, two year old Cody, is none the worse for wear, reports CBS station KTVT-TV in Dallas.

The cat now has a 'tale' that stretches from Dallas to Illinois. "He would've fit right in here," Elyse Housewright said, pointing to a snug area where Cody presumably sought shelter, in a box headed to Woodstock, Illinois. "I guess he just jumped in the box. I shut the box, taped it up and off he went."

Housewright says it was last Monday when she was packing boxes filled with foam wedges, when somehow curious Cody, got cozy in a box and was mistakenly shipped off. "I didn't hear anything, the box didn't move or jingle or anything," Housewright said.

Two days and more than 950 miles later, Cody surprised the package recipients – workers at a chiropractor's office in Woodstock, Illinois.

"Marie gets the call from the doctor and my jaw dropped, uh-oh!" Housewright said.

The news of her cat's whereabouts came as a relief to Cody's owner, 9-year-old Natalie Bennett. "He's like we're in Illinois. We're like what?!" Bennett said. "I'm like, can Cody bring me back a souvenir from Chicago. My mom was like, he is your souvenir."

Cody is a frisky feline who now shies away from the spotlight and his newfound celebrity status.

The adventure of the Dallas cat has caught the imagination of a country. "Page four - 'Cat Accidently Shipped to Woodstock from Texas'," Housewright read from the Chicago Sun Times Newspaper.
