A North Carolina man just caught a record breaking fish with his granddaughter's Barbie Doll fishing rod.
On Aug. 5, David Hayes was out fishing with his 3-year-old granddaughter, Alyssa a tradition the two have enjoyed together for a long as Alyssa could hold a fishing rod.
But this fishing trip was unlike any other the two have ever embarked on before. "After catching two or three bluegill, Alyssa turns to me and says, 'Papa, I've got to go to the bathroom. Hold my fishing rod,'" Haynes told the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. "A few minutes later, the float went under and I saw the water start boiling up. I knew right then that I had my hands full with that fishing rod."
After battling the fish for 25 minutes, Hayes finally won. He reeled in a channel cat that was 32 inches long and weighed 21 pounds 1 ounce. This Barbie Doll catch smashed the 18 pound 5 ounce record set in 2007.
Haynes tells the Commission he gets some abuse from his friends about using a hot pink Barbie Doll fishing rod to catch his prize fish, but he said he takes it all in stride.
