Minnesota Man Auctions Cancer Updates On eBay

ROCHESTER, Minn. (CBS) ― Usually you'll use eBay to buy vintage clothing, tickets to a sold out sporting event or images of the Virgin Mary on French toast. One man in Minnesota is using eBay to sell his cancer, in a matter of speaking.

Steve Rolbiecki of Rochester was diagnosed last year with a recurring type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was informed in January that it had returned.

Rolbiecki took his condition to eBay, putting up the opportunity for bidders to get personal updates every month on how their money helped alleviate his mounting medical bills, reports CBS station WCCO-TV in Minneaoplis.

"I was hoping, the lady who sold the toast got like $50,000. In the back of my mind, I thought, 'You never know,'" said Rolbiecki.

The auction ended over the weekend at a bid of $181.50.

Because of the success, he's now offering another series of auctions, with each unit priced at $25. This time, the winning proceeds will also benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
