Diver's Lost Wedding Ring Found In Giant Aquarium

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A diver at the New England Aquarium discovered a lost treasure Sunday while working in one of the tanks.

Mike Whyte was diving in the 200,000-gallon tank when he spotted a wedding ring that was lost in the tank about three months ago by another diver.

Bob Pirrmann lost his wedding ring in early July when he was working on an advertising campaign for the Sharks and Rays exhibit.

Whyte found the ring while he was cleaning near the bottom of the tank.

Pirrmann said he thinks he lost the ring when he was petting a giant sea turtle named Myrtle.

"I was next to one of the water vents down there that circulates the water, and while I was trying to balance myself, I think it shot off my finger," Pirrmann said. "I got out of the tank and then I noticed it was gone."

Pirrmann, who has been married for five years, told the other divers about losing his wedding ring. The divers said they had been keeping an eye out for it during cleanings and feedings.

"My wife was very understanding. She thought it was a great story. She loves marine life as much as I do," Pirrmann said.

Ironically, one week before Whyte found the ring, Pirrmann went out and bought another one.

"So now I have two," he said.
