An over-eager Patriots fan will find himself in court Monday morning, arrested for assaulting linebacker Junior Seau during Sunday's game at Foxboro Stadium.
Todd Kobus, 31 of Attleboro, jumped out of the stands during the fourth quarter and ran across the sidelines, tackling Junior Seau to the ground, reports CBS station WBZ-TV.
"He got an unassisted tackle whoever he is," Seau said after the game. "He rolled around, said Merry Christmas, and they pulled him away."
"I don't know where he jumped from. Obviously being as old as I am, I couldn't anticipate or couldn't see it coming," Seau said showing a sense of humor about the incident. "He blind-sided me."
"(Linebacker Mike) Vrabel saw it all happen. He was right in front of me; I don't know what he was doing," Seau said smiling. "I would never rob a bank with Vrabel; Mike is not the guy you want to rob a bank with."
Kobus was arrested and charged with assault and battery and trespassing.
In court Monday he told the judge he is a huge Patriots fan who made a
mistake. Kobus said he meant to give Seau a hug not tackle him. Kobus
is a member of the National Guard and said he is concerned about how
his "mistake" will hurt his military career.
A relative of Kobus purchased the game tickets online. The Patriots said the seat-holder's season tickets will be revoked.
The Patriots went on to crush the Arizona Cardinals, 47-7.
