Tree Branch Falls On Sacramento Mayor's Party

SACRAMENTO (AP) ― A massive tree branch crashed onto the restaurant patio where Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo was holding her Election Night party, sending one supporter to the hospital.

Fargo says several people were initially trapped under the 30-foot limb when it fell Tuesday. One woman was apparently injured and was taken to a hospital.

A former city fire chief, Julius Cherry, was at the party at Vallejo's Mexican restaurant and helped emergency crews evacuate the restaurant.

Fargo called it a "freak accident." Dozens of supporters were preparing to move the party to her campaign headquarters.

Fargo was trailing challenger and former NBA All-Star Kevin Johnson in early returns, although neither had more than 50 percent of the vote.
