Orphaned 'Bambi' Nursed Back To Health

GRAFTON (WBZ) ― A fawn is being nursed back to health after he was orphaned when his mother was hit and killed by a car in central Massachusetts.

Veterinarians at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton are caring for the baby deer and have fittingly named him Bambi.

The baby deer was slightly injured when his mother was hit by a car in Shrewsbury. He is estimated to be about one week old.

Once the fawn is healthy enough, he will be returned to the wild.

Shrewsbury animal control officials warn people to not care for or try to adopt a baby deer that is found alone.  It's illegal, and they say it's best that trained professionals handle the animals.  Officials also say if the mother isn't dead, as in this case, she will return for her fawn.
