Boston Police Dogs Get New Bullet-Proof Vests

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Ten police dogs were given bullet proof vests to help keep them safe on the streets.

The MSPCA presented the vests during a ceremony on Tuesday.

The vests were purchased by the MSPCA with the help of a grant from Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger through the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation and the Giving Back Fund.

"Police officers risk their lives daily to protect our communities and this includes the K9 units that are on the front lines, in harm's way," said MSPCA-Angell president Carter Luke. "We must ensure that canine officers are protected when facing incredibly dangerous situations."

The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation seeks to support police and fire departments throughout the United States with a particular emphasis on support for service dogs in cities where Roethlisberger has played football.
