N.H. Woman's Dog Crushed To Death At Airport

BOSTON (WBZ) ― An Auburn, New Hampshire woman wants to know why her dog was crushed to death at an Atlanta airport.

Jackie Douglass had purchased her West Highland Terrier from an Arkansas breeder on the Internet. She had seen pictures and videos and had her heart set on making the 12-week-old a part of her family. "I just fell in love with her," said Douglass.

She paid $800.00 plus a $300 airfare.

She and her husband were in the car thinking of names on the way to pick the pooch up at Logan Airport Saturday. That's when Jackie Douglass got a phone call from Delta Airlines. Someone had called to tell her the dog was killed while making a connecting flight in Atlanta.

A worker had placed the dog crate on the ground next to a vehicle that was about to load a plane. The vehicle moved, and crushed the dog. "That poor little puppy was under there and couldn't say, 'Hello, I'm down here!'"

Douglas wants the airline to hold the employee responsible, and to review its policies to make sure it doesn't happen again. "I just don't want this puppy to die in vain," she said.

Delta sent WBZ a statement: "We regret the loss of any animal as the safety and security of both our customers and the cargo we carry is our top priority. We are currently in the process of reaching out to the customer to address matters associated with the incident."

Douglass says she hasn't heard from Delta, since it first happened.
