A New Bedford couple has been charged with throwing a little dog out of their moving car.
According to police, Jimmy Correa and Jenny Torres were driving near Grove and Anthony Streets Tuesday afternoon and decided they didn't want their one-year-old chihuahua anymore. So they tossed Princess out the window and drove off.
Investigators say they were able to track them down because the couple came back to the scene about an hour later.
"These people were overheard laughing saying that 'the stupid dog is still there waiting.' It turns out the dog wasn't so stupid at all, because that allowed witnesses the opportunity to give us the license plate." said police Lt. Jeffrey Silva.
Correa, 24, and Torres, 31, were arrested a short time later.
They'll be arraigned in New Bedford District Court Wednesday.
They're charged with two felony counts of cruelty to animals for abandoning and throwing an animal from a moving vehicle.
Princess was not seriously hurt.
She was made an honorary officer of the New Bedford police department.
