Easton Enjoys Company Of Local Turkey

EASTON (WBZ) ― Turkeys are a regular site in many Massachusetts towns, but one turkey in particular has become something of a local celebrity in Easton.

"It's weird, it's like the same time – 10, 11 o'clock – he sits outside and clucks in front of the window," said George Langadousis with Avellino Pizza.

"He's used to people," said local Steve Scott. "The cars don't seem to bother him much. He's been around for awhile."

Some call him Freddie, some Sam, some Abbey, but everyone has seen him.

The turkey frequents several local businesses.

Tony Greige with Five Corners Petroleum says the turkey eats flowers planted outside the store.

Turkeys were extinct in Massachusetts by 1850. They were reintroduced in the 1970s, and the population has skyrocketed to an estimated 25,000 birds.
