Fla. Mom Finds Blade-Like Metal In Candy

Metal Appears To Protrude From Lollipop

LAKELAND, Fla. (CBS) ― A Florida mother who bought Valentine's Day lollipops for her son to give to friends and classmates made a frightening discovery this week. One of the lollipops had a blade-like piece of metal embedded in it.

Mulberry, Fla. resident Lisa Potter bought a bag of 10 Pokemon Valentine Cards and Pops from a Dollar General store in Lakeland, Fla. last week. She noticed Wednesday night that metal was protruding from one lollipop and reported it to authorities.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the blade may have been the edge of a box cutter. It was the only lollipop in the bag that had the piece of metal.

The sheriff's department is still investigating which lot number the batch of lollipops came from. The bar code is 073964209109. The product is made in China and is imported by Sherwood Brands.

The Dollar General store pulled the candy off shelves. It is conducting its own investigation.
