Harvard To Install Large Solar Power Array
WATERTOWN (AP) ―
Harvard University is planning to install a 500-kilowatt solar panel array on a university-owned building in Watertown.
Harvard said Tuesday the project, located at the Arsenal on the Charles development, will be the largest institutional-based solar power array in New England.
The solar array will be nearly two-and-a-half football fields long and will be installed on the flat roof of a 370,000-square-foot commercial rental property built in 1816.
The project will generate enough energy to meet the electrical needs of about 33 single-family homes and reduce carbon emissions by 238 metric tons annually, the equivalent of taking 43 cars per year off the road.
It is expected to be operating by the end of the year.
