Art Gallery Celebrates Beautiful Cloud Formations

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A local art show that opened Wednesday night at Mass Audubon's Moose Hill gallery in Sharon celebrates the clouds we've seen this month.

Puffy cumulus hanging over Brookline, reaching for the sky in Foxboro, dancing clouds decorating Rowley... "You can just feel that artist embracing that cloud, that time of day, that spirit," said Diana Hampe – a celebrated local high school art teacher and one of the judges of the art show. "I like to tell my students that a good piece of artwork sings...'cause it does."

Over 100 artists from across New England entered, and over 30 pieces of art were selected. Of that, three best-in-show were awarded, including a picture of a thunderstorm.

Three other compositions were awarded honorable mention, including a multimedia piece. "Clouds to me are just so unattainable," said photographer Fernando Martins. "I created this ladder to figure out a way to reach the clouds."

His photo study of the sky over Foxboro is also on display. "This was during the last couple of storms."

Another honorable mention is this divine work of cumulus clouds done in oil on copper. "The copper adds a texture and a sort of glow," explains Nora Charney-Rosenbaum, whose father, Jule Charney, was a prominent meteorologist. "I think works well with the idea of clouds."

Considered one of the father's of modern day meteorology, his passion for our atmosphere is living on.
