March Looks To Be Tough Month For Weather
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
There have been no shortage of storms this winter and the pattern looks to hold for a while longer.
February ended as the wettest on record in parts of southern New England and in northern New England, many towns have experienced their snowiest winters ever.
We were hoping that March would come in like a lamb but it didn't, and two rain storms during the first six days have produced around and in some towns over an inch of rain.
On top of that, temperatures have been above normal leading to significant snow melt, especially in southern New England. Due to this, flooding issues have resurfaced and with a major rain maker on the way for the weekend, flooding appears likely at this point.
Not only have the storms been numerous, but most have been quite juicy. We can thank a dip in the jet stream for that. Lately it has been dipping all the way down to the Gulf Coast region -- enhancing storms with sub-tropical moisture then steering them up the East Coast to unleash all that moisture on us.
With only a slight shift in the pattern expected next week and all that snow in northern New England to melt and come down river, it's looking like it will be a tough month and a long spring.
At this moment flooding appears inevitable, it's just a matter of how bad it will be.
