Mass. Groundhog Puts Weather Prediction To Test

BOSTON (WBZ) ―

Groundhog Day took on new meaning in Massachusetts Saturday morning. A local groundhog, who has been running for the office of state groundhog, posted her first almost official prediction for the remainder of winter.

Step aside Punxsutawney Phil -- there is a new groundhog in town. Meet Ms. G, a resident at Mass Audubons Drumlin Farm in Lincoln.

Her cuteness and local weather expertise has attracted a host of followers, and a slew of media attention including a spread in Boston Magazine with one of her weather consultants.

And on Saturday she put her expertise to the test when she predicted the timeframe for the end of winter.

Ms. G saw her shadow, so the official prognostication is there will be six more weeks of winter.

The groundhog bill is still in legislation on Beacon Hill, but you can help move it along by signing a petition online.
