Wednesday's Child: 17-Year-Old Tony

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Tony is a sweet, affectionate 17-year-old boy of African-American and Caucasian heritage who enjoys socializing.

With his happy and engaging personality, he endears himself to people.

His foster mother calls Tony a comedian because of his terrific sense of humor and his infectious laugh. Tony is in need of a permanent family that will integrate him fully into their household and be able to support his long-term care.

Tony has significant delays and limitations and is followed by specialists for treatable medical conditions.

He currently lives in a specialized foster home where he gets along well with all family members. He is very gentle with younger children and with the household pets. Tony is helpful around the house and aims to please. He loves being a part of a family and doing activities together, including attending church.

One of Tony's favorite pastimes is listening to music. He brings his iPod everywhere he goes, and you can be sure he is singing and dancing along to his favorite songs. Tony also enjoys Wii bowling.

Currently, Tony is in high school and has an Individualized Educational Plan and support services to address his emotional and behavioral needs. Even though Tony puts forth effort into his schoolwork, his teachers still feel that he is capable of doing more.

Tony enjoys attending a vocational program to increase his daily living skills, and he thrives on positive reinforcement. In the summers, he loves going to camp where he swims and participates in arts and crafts activities.

Tony's social worker is seeking a family of any constellation with or without other children who could be a great advocate for this youngster and support contact with his birth family.

With continued encouragement, Tony could make small steps and reach his potential. Legally free for adoption, Tony is a loveable teenager who has a lot to offer in a family.

To learn more about Tony and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit mareinc.org.

The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
